I am an avid reader of vampire romance novels and was recently loaned the novel "Fledgling". I had never heard of Octavia E. Butler before, but after reading this book I was totally hooked. I found this webpage while I was looking for more info on Ms. Butler (and to see if there is a sequel to "Fledgling") and was sincerely disappointed to find that she passed away a couple of years ago. I'm very excited to find and read her works and I'm sure I will enjoy them as much as "Fledgling".

Why Ms Butler came into my spirit today is beyond me. I just felt the need to connect with one of the wonderfully insightful and vunerable sistah writers who have given word to my soul. I had the pleasure and honor of meeting her at a gathering at Sony Pictures in 1996. I was amazed when I later discovered her listed in the Pasadena phonebook. So of course, I called her....She was warm, genuine and a little cautious (of course I was the crazy fan). Her spirit will never be forgotten...

I began reading Octavia about 30 years ago. I'm glad that there is an internet, and blogs, now, so I can have access to what I didn't have then. I really appreciate the energy you've put into this. May we all be inspired to do good things in our own way, as your efforts are inspirational, as Octavia Butler, was inspirational and transforming.
